Why is luring troops important? Failure to lure troops could potentially mean a loss for you when
attacking in high level gameplay or Clan Wars. There’s no worse feeling in
this game than seeing your troops get decimated by the enemy’s clan castle
troops because you forgot to lure them. This guide is going to look into
how to lure clan castle troops as well as how to lure the barbarian king
and archer queen.

What should you do first? The very first thing you should do when looking at a base is determine
where the barbarian king, archer queen and clan castle are located. Start
off luring by dropping 1 troop (typically your least valuable, most
expendable) troop. This differs depending on your typical attack strategy,
but it could be a barbarian, archer, or minion. The key here is to watch
the AQ and BK, wait for them to face in the direction you are trying to
lure from, and then drop the troop.

*Note: it’s very important that you wait for them to turn to the direction you want to attack from. Failure to do so could result in you having to drop more than one troop.

Notice in the pic above how there’s an exclamation point above the head of the Hero. This is how you know you have lured either the Aq or the Bk.

Once you have lured both the Aq and the Bk, any troop you place anywhere on the screen will cause either of them to go immediately attack that troop, even if it is clear on the other side of the base. You can use this to your advantage to continue to lure the heroes outside of the reach of the defensive buildings.

How do you lure clan castle troops?

How you lure clan castle troops really depends on where the clan castle is located. Most of the clan castles you will encounter outside of clan wars will allow you to lure clan castle troops by dropping a troop on a particular side of the base. The clan castle building itself has one of the biggest ranges in the game, so if you notice the clan caslte building is closer to the edge of the base I a particular side, drop a troop to lure the troops inside the clan castle.

How to Deal with centralized, unlurable clan castle:

First, let me start off by saying there is no such thing as unlurable. At some point, the clan castle troops will be lured. Centralized clan castles are definitely tougher to lure than non centralized, but it is doable. The best advice I can give in this situation is to use a hog rider or two. Deploy the hog rider preferably away from where you lured the Aq and Bk, and try to deploy it away from a defensive building (say cannon or mortar). Hog riders attack defenses specifically, and often times centralized clan castles have fluff buildings like barracks and gold mines outside of walls and defenses behind those walls. This is why the use of a hog rider works to lure centralized clan castles.

The only problem that you could possibly face in this scenario is not being able to lure all the clan castle troops, but you should be able to draw out most of them this way.

*Note: you could use more hog riders to ensure you lure out all the clan castle troops, but doing so could actually hurt your attack by taking away from the troops you want to use during the main part of the attack.

Dealing with specific clan castle troops:

Wizards: The trouble with wizards is they deal splash damage. To nullify this effect, use a similar strategy to Barch. Deploy barbarians in a line to draw the fire of the wizards, and then swarm the wizards with archers (or wizards) to kill them off.

Archers: The important thing to remember when dealing with archers is to make sure you lure them. If you don’t lure them and they are behind a wall, they can completely ruin a raid. Archers don deal splash damage, so you can use this to your advantage. Still attack similar to barch. Deploy barbarians in a line and then swarm with archers or wizards.

Witch: The witch can be a real pain. She’s similar in a lot of ways to the archer. Failure to lure, and you can kiss your attack goodbye. The real issue when dealing with the witch isn’t her, it’s her skeletons. The key to killing the witch is to be patient. Her movement speed is fairly slow, which means it’s going to take more than a fee troops to lure her out. Lure the witch off to one of the sides where she is much easier to deal with. Don’t try to attack the skeletons because the witch will just respawn them. Instead, keep the skeletons occupied with barbarians or archers, and then swarm the witch with archers.

*Note: if you know for a fact your opponent has a witch, it is probably easier to just use a lightning spell to kill her off. If you go this route, focus the lightning attack directly on the witch so that you ensure you kill her.

Dragon: The dragon can also be a real pain to deal with. To start off, it’s a flying troop, so the only thing that can harm it is other flying troops, archers, and wizards. Also, lightning typically won’t kill a dragon either, so there goes that avenue. Another issue the dragon presents is, since it is a flying troop and ground troops can’t attack it, that means they won’t try to kill it. Meaning they will just run to a building while the dragons splash damage destroys your troops. Handle the dragon similarly to the way you would handle the witch. Get the dragon as far away on the edge of the base away from defensive buildings as possible. Deploy one archer to attack it’s attention, and then quickly use a semi circle motion of archers to kill it off. In the event you haven’t killed it yet, repeat the same process.

Barbarian King: Once lured, draw him to the edge of the outside of the base (often times, people place builders huts on the outside edges in the corner of bases. You can use this to your advantage by placing one archer or barbarian there to attack the building so you don’t have to waste troops drawing them to the edge.) Once on the outside and away from defenses, drop 3-5 barbarians and swarm of archers in a semi circle.

Archer Queen: deal with her the same way as the barbarian king. One key thing to point out is, the queen has the farthest reach in the game, so make sure you draw her out as far as possible. Once drawn out, drop a few barbarians and then swarm in a semicircle with archers.

Final thoughts:

With practice and experience, you can learn how to lure the clan castle, Aq, and Bk without having to use a whole bunch of troops. It takes practice though. You will also be able to kill all the troops (clan castle, bk, and aq) all at the same time. The key to luring is to use as few troops as possible, so that you don’t take away from the main part of your attack.
